The Edmonton Valley Zoo invited two female Icy wolves on Feb. 14.
The pair showed up from Parc Zoologique CERZA in Hermival-les-Vaux, France, on Valentine's Day.
Fittingly — given the timing — the new wolves were painstakingly chosen by authorities who went through over a year looking for reasonable allies for Tundra, a male Cold wolf at the Edmonton zoo, whose accomplice Shilah kicked the bucket in 2022.
"Icy wolves are pack creatures so it was critical to track down an ideal choice for Tundra," said Laura Castor, creature care leader at the zoo. "It has required a great deal of investment and work to arrive at this point and we were unable to be more joyful with this outcome."
